Beer & Food Pairing

Some people say that there are rules to this? … I’m not quite sure. I think cheese and marmite work perfectly together in a toasted sandwich, however, my wife is far from convinced! What I have learnt so far is that strong flavoured foods go with strong flavoured beer and similar flavours work well together. This is my guide/ general 'cheat sheet', it isn't gospel and my opinions and tastes may be different to everyone else's, but these combo’s are definitely worth a try!A tankard of purity longhorn in front of a pizza.Pizza/ Pasta – Strong larger, ie; Moretti – I’ve always felt that a strong lager goes well with this, as they don’t overpower the flavours. Amber ales also work well too!Hearty food - ie; steak and kidney pie oven baked traditional british home-cooked food or just simply 'pub grub'. – Rich food = Rich beer ... you need a traditional English ale/ bitter, ie; London Pride.A bottle of Young's Double Chocolate Stout in front of a chocolate cheesecake.Spicy food – You need something with a bit of tang to it! IPA was designed to be enjoyed with spicy food and that’s exactly what I go with every time. Roscoe’s Hop House IPA is perfect, especially with a curry!BBQ, grills, burgers & steak - I find that Amber ale or brown ale work best, as you need a beer with character to meet those bold flavours. You can't go wrong with a Brooklyn!A bottle of Young's Double Chocolate Stout in front of a chocolate cheesecake.
