Some of Glasgow’s Beer Hot Spots!
We went up to Glasgow for an event last month so we just had to check out the rest of the beer scene! Glasgow is a beautiful city, with a fantastic reputation for culture, graffiti, shopping and plenty of beer too! We decided to do a bit of a trail and here are a few of the top spots that we hit up!
Inn Deep
Inn Deep was started in 2012 by a group of friends and sells a wide range of beers, including the legendary Williams Bros beer, based in Alloa. The bar was underneath the two arches of a bridge, which immediately made it really funky and the bright purple lighting made it even cooler! They had 19 guest keg lines, 3 guest casks and plenty of bottled beers too. The food is also amazing, with something for everyone, including veggie and vegan options. Our tipples of choice were Hop Magic from Amundsen Brewery, Pale Fire from Pressure Drop and Hop Hunter from Sierra Nevada - all great beers!
The Cave
This next place was a bottle shop and the perfect “beer cave”. Stocking over 400 brews, they have been going strong for 15 years and you can really see why! The staff were very friendly and helpful, so this is definitely the perfect place to pick up some great beers for afters…
Crossing The Rubicon
Next up and just a stone’s throw away, was Crossing The Rubicon which features 14 kegs and 4 casks which rotate regularly. As we had just eaten, we didn’t get a chance to try their Indian tapas but it smelt AMAZING! We went for a nice mix of “I Love You Honey Bunny” from Siren Craft Brew and the more traditional “Fraoch” from Williams Bros, the fantastic heather ale that we had already been acquainted with many times before! So if you fancy a curry and decent brew, be sure to check out this joint!
Shilling Brewing Company
Next stop was a little further away and a slightly different scene, Shilling Brewing Company is a brewpub that has been set up in an old bank - and to be fair, they haven’t changed it substantially which is what makes it so brilliant! Don’t get me wrong, it’s a bit more up market than other destinations in town, with their bronze copper tanks gleaming behind the bar. Shilling have their in-house brews on tap, complimented with some local legends like Stewart Brewing…. We love their Black IPA! Another great part of the brewery is the toilets as they are actually inside the old vaults with the doors still on… A bit weird but hey!
DRYGATE BREWING CO.
We then hit our final destination, Drygate Brewing Co. - in fact this was where our event was at! We were going to see a talk from mountain bike legend Hans "No Way" Rey and what a venue to have it in. Drygate is a microbrewery, right in the heart of Glasgow, and opened its doors for the first time in 2014. The brewery has a built-in bar inside what was previously a screen-printing factory. The place was buzzing and is definitely worth a look-see. You need to make sure that you get a chance to try the Disco Fork Lift Truck IPA… it is beautiful!
Sadly that was the end of our little beer tour but there are way more epic beer places to hit up so WE WILL BE BACK SOON!
