Great Pubs: The Weighbridge, Alvechurch, Worcestershire

With many of the pubs and bars back in action we move to our latest series highlighting some cracking places to find a good tipple! When we first moved to Alvechurch, Worcestershire everyone was shouting about a popular pub called The Weighbridge, so we had to check it out. After heading down one evening we immediately fell in love with it, realising that it is probably one of the best boozers that we’ve been in!A picture of a pint down at the weighbridge pub in Alvechurch as part of great pub seriesThe pub sits beside the idyllic Alvechurch Marina on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. It’s also conveniently about 50 yards from Alvechurch station (easily accessible from Birmingham City Centre).A picture of the bar at the weighbridge pub in Alvechurch as part of great pub seriesIt consists of a snug, bar, garden and dining room with a cosy countryside feel. When entering the bar area, you immediately notice all of the awards on the left hand wall they’ve won over many years. We could list them but there’s loads - you can check them out here. Most recently they were awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award with their reviews being placed in the top 10% of listings on TripAdvisor.A picture of some friends enjoying a pint down at the weighbridge pub in Alvechurch as part of great pub seriesThe bar is quite small, with nostalgic metal signs on the lower front, and a chalkboard above with the latest beer and food options. This is a real ale pub that keeps its cask really well, serving a fantastic range, with seven hand pulls on the go on rotation. The beers range from the likes of Wye Valley Brewery, the local Weatheroak Brewery, Slater’s, Kinver Brewery and many more. There are also some lager options and last time we visited the pub they had the very solid 1985 from Wye Valley Brewery on, along with a traditional cask cider from Saxby’s.A picture of a fish pie at the weighbridge pub in Alvechurch as part of great pub seriesThe food is proper hearty pub grub and is, well, absolutely fantastic! Ranging from Black Country faggots to salmon and watercress quiche, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. We tried their potato topped fish pie with chips and crushed peas, along with the vegetable balti with chips and rice… both were outstanding!A picture of the weighbridge pub in Alvechurch as part of great pub seriesAnother thing to mention is the pub’s notorious beer festivals that they host. Hopefully these will return sometime in the future! :)So head down and check this out and support a local! To find out their opening times and info, you can check out their Facebook page herePlease note: The Weighbridge are currently running an outside bar as they couldn't reopen as normal with distancing measures in place. Their kitchen is still running Thursday through to Monday but booking is required for evenings and Sunday lunchtime.
