Marston’s Brewery Announce Epic New Home Brew Competition

Marston’s Brewery has announced the launch of an epic new homebrew competition which will be taking place next year. The brewery that is famous for its Amber Ale, Pedigree, which is brewed using the traditional Burton Union System is aiming to find the UK’s best home brewers. This will be part of Marston’s Virtual Home Brew Academy that is taking place in February 2021, where the winners will be crowned.

The overall winner will have their beer brewed on the awesome DE14 nano-kit which we saw on our visit to the iconic brewery back in 2017. They will also receive a £500 gift voucher for Balliihoo and have their beer available to purchase from the Marston’s Brewery store in Burton as an Easter special. Two runners up will also be selected where they will receive a £250 gift voucher to purchase their own brewing equipment.

If so, all that you need to do to enter this competition is post your recipe on the entry form on the Marston’s website.Entrant’s recipes will be shortlisted in February by four judges: Legendary author Pete Brown, Marston’s Head Brewer Pat McGinty, award-winning beer writer and podcaster Emma Inch and myself. The selected brewers will be invited to brew their recipes and submit these for tasting. 

The Home Brew Academy

The Home Brew Academy will be where homebrewers can enhance their skills, speak to Marston’s brewers and see the brewery in action!  There are five awesome sessions;Session 1 – Up your kit game with Pete Brown and Balliihoo where they will go through different pieces of home brew kits, according to different skills, advice/information on how to choose equipment, strengths and weaknesses of each kit.Session 2 - Q&A with Pete Brown and Pat McGinty – This will be the chance for brewers to get any questions answered from an expert and also to gain more of an insight into brewing in general.Session 3 - Best of brews – Advice on sourcing the best ingredients, where to go for them and what to look for. Also general recipe tips and advice/information on sourcing beer styles.Session 4 -  Home brewers are given a sneak peek into brewing on the DE14 Nano-Kit. Session 5 - Home Brewer of the year is announced!So if you want the chance to learn more about homebrewing and get your beer produced and sold in the Marston’s Brewery store, just head over to the Marston’s website and post your fantastic recipe!
