Paddy’s Day Pints!

Saint Patrick’s Day – affectionately known as Paddy’s day - has certainly become synonymous with having a few beers through the generations which I am sure began out of innocence. Y’know. The auld Irish style libations. I suppose it’s now that craft beer has become so prominent here, we’re taking the mick with drink a lot less, enjoying a moderate selection of higher quality brews.

Mahon Falls - Dungarvan Brewing Company

Dungarvan Brewing Company do a rye pale ale every spring called Mahon Falls. Hazelnuts, cherries and blueberry notes at first with a mild peppery undertone and a juicy apricot aftertaste. This seasonal brew will quench the thirst brought on by standing around watching the festival march. [/su_column][/su_row]

Of Foam & Fury DIPA - Galway Bay Brewery

A delicious sup is Of Foam & Fury DIPA. This beer is resinous, tropical, chewy, punchy, powerful but not sharp. The head boasts gleaming bubbles from the first to last gulp.[/su_column][/su_row]

Peach & Blueberry Kettle Sour Ale - Hope Beer

There’s a peach & blueberry kettle sour ale that is intensely fruity in flavour and fizzy in mouthfeel, tingly, astringent, sherbet and juicy. What a kaleidoscope of taste![/su_column][/su_row]And of course on this day you should have the classic pint of the black stuff, yes I mean Guinness. I hear some craft purists saying “what?! Surely he doesn’t mean that mass produced Guinness!” But yes I do, for two reasons.[su_row][su_column size="1/2"]A picture from the Beer Yeti top Irish beers to enjoy for St. Patricks Day with Jaime Power from Jamie's Beer Talk. My Grandad taught me to leave the creamy head till last so that every sip would leave a frothy ring in the glass. His tradition was to finish a pint in seven sips and no more. The reverent purpose in this is that you could count seven rings left in the glass showing that you had yielded two for Father God, two for the Son, two for the Holy Ghost and one for yourself. The picture of my example (left).[/su_column][/su_row]I gulped too much in the first sip but you get the idea, try it for yourself.Sláinte.
