Turning Point Host an Awesome Virtual Pub Night!

With the current social distancing measures in place, we’re living in pretty surreal times at the moment. The usual pint down the pub or social meet-up in the brewery taproom has ceased for what feels like lifetime already. It’s been a time for many breweries to shift their focus and think outside the box and that’s exactly what Turning Point did, hosting what was an epic night of beer tasting, Q&A’s and plenty of banter! The brewery from North Yorkshire was set up in 2017 by Aron McMahon & Cameron Brown. After meeting them at Indie Beer Feast 2018, we were completely mesmerised by their legendary American Pale Ale Disco King. Since then they’ve taken the craft beer scene by storm, bringing us plenty of brewing magic, crazy MTB/TTO sessions and some awesome can artwork from Lotte Walsh.Pictures from the Turning Point brewery virtual online tasting pub night with Siren, Five Points, Roosters and Thornbridge BreweryIn December last year they opened their new brewery and Taproom in Knaresborough, on the site of the old Roosters brewery. To celebrate the move, they brewed four epic collabs with Five Points, Siren, Thornbridge, and Roosters. The project named New Frontiers was due to have a huge launch at the brewery and across some of the best bars in May but with much uncertainty the guys decided to host an online tasting. The event hosted by co-founder Cameron Brown was tipped to be a busy one. The Turning Point team had said prior to the event that “you’ll be able to tell your Grandchildren you were there when Turning Point went digital” but they probably didn’t quite envisage a turnout of over 150! The atmosphere was that of a pub with a group of mates with lots of laughs and some cracking beer! Pictures from the Turning Point brewery virtual online tasting pub night with Siren, Five Points, Roosters and Thornbridge BreweryThe panel also had a rousing line-up of talented brewers from each of the collaborating breweries along with Turning Point’s entire team to talk about the inspiration behind each brew. The line-up included; Known Unknowns - Future Export Stout with Five Points Brewing, a contemporary take on the traditional London favourite. Virtue is Lost - Guava, Vanilla, & Cacao sour with Siren Craft Brew, an unbelievable smooth sour, which is astonishing for a beer with no lactose. Disco Mountain - Vermont Style IPA with Thornbridge Brewery, a blend of both breweries finest work - Disco King and Green Mountain. A very well balanced combination of citrusy sweetness and bitterness in the finish. House in the Rock - Nelson and Simcoe Pale with Roosters, really easy going brew and we could drink this all night long!Pictures from the Turning Point brewery virtual online tasting pub night with Siren, Five Points, Roosters and Thornbridge BreweryThe event then moved onto a very intuitive Q&A session with the panel, particularly revolving around current events and how it’s affecting the brewing industry. For those that hung around for the after party Cam ensured that the fun didn’t stop with plenty of games involving a cracking hat round!Pictures from the Turning Point brewery virtual online tasting pub night with Siren, Five Points, Roosters and Thornbridge BreweryThe evening was definitely one to remember and has to be up there with some of the top events that we’ve been to for sure. This social distancing malarkey suddenly doesn’t feel so bad. More of these please guys, we already can’t wait until the next one! ;)
